Come Home to Copper provides information and ideas on the uses of copper and copper alloys for the home, from the obvious, such as electrical wiring and pipework services, to the not so obvious, such as roofing, cladding and internal decoration.
Copper has long been the professional plumbers material of choice for hot and cold water, heating, drinking water and gas pipework services. Copper can also play a role in delivering solar thermal systems and fire sprinkler systems.
For hundreds of years copper has been used as a roofing material on prestigious buildings, notably churches. Now we are seeing an increase in the use of copper for roofing and cladding for all types of buildings, including homes. The colours possible with copper and copper alloys, such as brass and bronze, make homes stand out from their neighbours.
Copper, and copper alloys, are highly appreciated by designers who make beautiful objects for around the home, some decorative, some functional. Brass and bronze in particular make exceedingly good choices for door furniture (handles and knobs), lights and lamps, furniture (chairs, sideboards, tables). Brass is also used for sanitary ware such as taps, which are usually chrome plated.
