The National Self Build & Renovation Show returns on the 19th - 21st May for our exciting spring/summer event. Featuring a packed line-up of free seminars, expert advice and over 200 exhibitors from right across the industry, you’ll get all the help you need for your project.
We also have a number of live demonstrations throughout the show, giving you the opportunity to see products and materials in action. These demos are a must see, whether you’re planning to get hands on yourself, or are just looking to learn a little more about aspects of the self build or renovation process.
Timber frame construction is one of the most popular primary build methods for self-builders due to the combination of its strength, and it being quick and easy to construct. By choosing to building with timber frame, you can achieve anything from Building Regulations to Passivhaus standards.
ICF blocks are a quick, energy efficient building system and can be a great alternative to more traditional methods. The large, lightweight blocks are hollow and lock together to provide a formwork system into which concrete is poured. Once set, the concrete becomes a high strength structure with the formwork providing additional thermal insulation. Eco-friendly and incredibly flexible, this system lends itself easily to almost any design or layout.
The Smart Wall is a precision engineered modern clay block system that achieves Passivhaus standards. Passivhaus is a strict standard in energy efficiency when it comes to new buildings. For a home to be Passivhaus certified, it needs to be made from eco-friendly materials and combine a high level of insulation and air-tightness with an exceptionally efficient ventilation system to minimise heat and energy needs.
Up to 15% of heat in a home is lost through the floors. Cellecta’s eco-friendly, super strong structural flooring alternative provides outstanding thermal and structural performance. Insulation blocks sit on and between standard pre-stressed concrete floor beams, with a structural concrete topping to finish.
We will also have an oak frame construction activity on over the weekend. Designed to be safe, fun and child friendly, it’s a great chance for children (and grown ups) to erect a scale-model of an Oak Frame House, combining traditional methods with the latest techniques.
