NSBRC 15 Year Celebratory Dinner

On Friday 1st April we hosted a special dinner to celebrate 15 years of the NSBRC. Since opening our doors in 2007 we have welcomed over a quarter of a million visitors and we used the evening to thank and acknowledge some of the people who have helped us on our journey.

The primary reason for hosting the dinner was to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all our original exhibitors, who took a leap of faith by joining the centre when it was still in its conceptual stage – and have stayed with us ever since.

During a fantastic three course meal, at the stunning Basset Down Complex, entertaining speeches were given by Richard Bacon MP, Andrew Baddeley-Chappell (CEO of NaCSBA) and Harvey Fremlin (managing director, NSBRC).

In 2007 the NSBRC was, and remains, a unique concept which has become the heart of the UK’s homebuilding sector. During the evening we acknowledged the inspiration, drive and determination to turn an idea into reality that was shown by Raymond Connor. Raymond, CEO of BuildStore, was presented with a special plaque – a larger version of which will be on permanent display at the NSBRC recognising his achievement. The centre is run by a different team now, with a slightly different approach, but our links to BuildStore remain incredibly important to us.

A second plaque was also presented to the team of employee-owners, - who have successfully run the NSBRC since 2014, with our current employee owner of the year, Amanda Russell, collecting on behalf of all the team.

During his speech, Harvey also made a number of special announcements, including the first public playing of our brand new radio advert (currently being broadcast on Classic FM), and confirmation that Team NSBRC have extended our sponsorship with Swindon Town Football Club into the next season. We were delighted to be joined by Rob Angus, Swindon Town’s Chief Executive, on the evening.

We want to offer our sincere thanks to all our (200+) exhibiting partners for their continued support. We also thank our wonderful visitors. We truly love hearing about your plans and helping you turn your ideas into reality.

Here’s to the next 15 years of building better homes!

Look out for our special ’15 year’ events including our series of online surgeries and our brand new open evenings.

Seize the Moment: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Self Build Your Dream Home

We received this blog from longstanding exhibitor, Fleming Homes and found the piece inspiring, and wanted to share this with you. We hope this offers encouragement as you embark on your homebuilding project.

"Do not wait until the conditions are perfect to begin. Beginning makes the conditions perfect." Alan Cohen*

Alan Cohen's quote captures a powerful truth that’s particularly relevant to self-building. When the housing market feels uncertain, when interest rates continue to feel elevated in comparison with the record lows of 2020-2021, or when material prices fluctuate, it’s tempting to put the brakes on our plans - to hold off until things calm down.

The Homebuilding Centre Limited - now majority owned by its employees!

Since 2014, our award-winning visitor centre (The National Self Build & Renovation Centre / NSBRC) has been owned and operated by ‘The Homebuilding Centre Limited’, an employee-owned business. We welcomed our first visitors to the NSBRC in 2007 and, eighteen years on, we remain the UK’s only permanent exhibition centre designed specifically to meet the needs of individual self-builders, renovators and home improvers.
