Celebrating 11 Years of Employee Ownership with a Day of Adventure at Go Ape! 🌳

On Monday 23rd June, we celebrated our 11th Employee Ownership Day at Go Ape, another proudly employee-owned business. We spent the day doing tree-top challenges, team building, and plenty of laughs - all set against the beautiful backdrop of Swinley Forest, and it was the perfect place to reflect on what makes our team so special: collaboration, shared purpose - and a good dose of courage at points!

This year’s EO Day celebration holds particular significance. In the past 12 months, we’ve taken big strides in operating as a truly responsible and sustainable business. 🌱

We were proud to achieve Good Business Charter Accreditation and become a Certified B Corp - milestones that reaffirm our long-standing commitment to ethical business and putting people before profit.

Our day began at the ‘Basecamp’, where we were warmly welcomed by one of Go Ape’s own employee owners, Holly. Hearing their EO story and learning about how Go Ape operates as an employee-owned company sparked some interesting conversational points and drew parallels to our own journey.

We then split into teams to play Baboonzled - a board game designed to spark creative thinking and problem-solving - followed by a team discussion, where we reflected on our recent B Corp certification and tested our knowledge on the NSBRC’s sustainability practices and what it means to be part of the growing B Corp movement.

After lunch together, it was time for action!

Group 1 tackled the high ropes on the Treetop Challenge, navigating zip wires, swinging bridges, and adrenaline-fuelled descents.

Group 2 took on the Forest Segways, gliding through the scenic woodland trails, and afterwards took part in a competitive (and surprisingly therapeutic!) session of Axe Throwing.

Recognising the team

We also took the opportunity to celebrate some individual achievements.

We’re delighted to share that Katy Ashcroft was named Employee Owner of the Year 2025 by the National Self Build & Renovation Centre! 🎉 This recognition highlights a personal commitment and valuable contributions to our mission.

We were delighted to name Katy as our 2025 Employee Owner of the Year. Katy consistently champions the NSBRC and her professional focus and commitment, alongside her warmth and positive attitude reinforces our EO culture every day. Katy was at the top of my nomination list all year - and when I spoke to our colleagues during the selection process the affection and admiration for Katy was obvious. She serves as genuine inspiration to us all and is a deserving winner!

⭐ A huge congratulations as well to Nick Whant and Kristina House on their very well-deserved achievements

I’m incredibly proud to be part of a business that truly puts people and community at its heart. Being recognised as Employee Owner of the Year is truly an honour. It’s a joy getting to work alongside a friendly team that cares deeply about our mission – better, more sustainable homes for everyone.
