NSBRC Survey Results

In June 2021 we surveyed our customers, in partnership with the National Custom & Self Build Association (NaCSBA). We wanted to understand who are the people undertaking substantial homebuilding projects, what motivates them, and what barriers they are faced with.

We were delighted to receive 681 responses, allowing us to get a meaningful insight into the self-built homes market.

Some of the results from the survey are being used to provide data for the ‘Bacon Review’ a government report, requested by the Prime Minister, and being produced by Richard Bacon MP. The review will assess the opportunities and barriers to growth for the sector, and support a “major scaling up of self-commissioned homes”.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the survey.

NSBRC Aspirations & Motivations Survey 2026

Each year The National Self Build & Renovation Centre produces a survey in partnership with the National Custom & Self Build Association (NaCSBA).

The 2026 survey marks our sixth edition and was completed by 415 people. This data provides a detailed view of those planning, undertaking, or having recently completed substantial homebuilding projects.
