B Corps are companies verified by B Lab that meet industry leading standards, for:
- Social and environmental performance
- Transparency
- Accountability
Becoming a Certified B Corp was a year-long process, which put our business to the test using B Lab’s rigorous B Impact Assessment (BIA) framework. This investigates a company's impact on its employees, its community, its customers and the environment.
With a ‘B Impact Assessment’ score of 124.7, the NSBRC far exceeds the B Corp minimum of 80, and the average business score of 50.9. Verified by the non-profit B Lab, this certification confirms the NSBRC’s outstanding performance in areas including social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Better Sustainable Business
Beyond using our platform to help over a quarter of a million visitors create Better Sustainable Homes since we opened our doors in 2007, we recognise that running our business has its own impact on the world around us. It's a cornerstone of our Employee Owned ethos that we are committed to seeking out ethical and sustainable practices, which contribute to the wellbeing of our planet, our community and our industry.
As part of this, we’ve reduced our CO₂ emissions for three consecutive years, amounting to a 23% reduction of our carbon footprint. You can find more detail about this in our first ever Annual Sustainability Report, published in June 2025.
“We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community — from startups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that positive impact is possible in any sector. Welcoming The NSBRC is an exciting moment for the Self Build & Renovation industry. B Lab UK and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased that The NSBRC is paving the way for a new way of doing things.”
Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK
The B Corp community in the UK is one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world, and the NSBRC is among the first 3,000 Certified B Corps in the UK, alongside companies like The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, The Big Issue and Good Energy.
With recertification required every three years, the NSBRC is committed to continuous improvement. We’re proud of this milestone, but we know the journey doesn’t end here. We’ll keep striving to be a Better Sustainable Business - together.
