The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) is a UK-based non-profit membership organisation bringing together manufacturers, contractors, architects, engineers and academics working across the built environment. With more than 160 members, ASBP champions demonstrably sustainable building products through evidence-based, third-party verified guidance and research, helping the industry avoid greenwash and adopt genuinely low-carbon materials. Our work spans three core themes, Natural, Circular and Healthy, covering mass timber, natural insulation, reuse and resource efficiency, fire safety, and health and wellbeing in buildings. ASBP shares knowledge through guidance, research and events, and works to influence policy accelerating the shift to low-carbon materials.
The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) is a UK-based, not-for-profit membership organisation working to accelerate the shift to demonstrably sustainable building materials, for everyone from national housebuilders to individual self-builders and renovators.
Founded over a decade ago, ASBP brings together more than 160 organisations across the built environment, manufacturers, contractors, architects, engineers, and academic and research institutions, all with a shared interest in materials that are evidence-based, third-party verified, and free from greenwash. Our strapline, Products. People. Planet., sums up the balance we look for: materials that perform, that support the people who build with and live in them, and that reduce the built environment's impact on the natural world.
Our work is organised around three themes. Natural covers mass timber and natural insulation materials such as hemp, wood fibre and sheep's wool, along with the emerging science of biogenic carbon storage in bio-based products. Circular focuses on reuse and resource efficiency, helping the industry design out waste and keep materials in use for longer. Healthy addresses the impact of building products on the people who occupy the spaces they create, from indoor air quality to non-toxic finishes.
For self-builders and renovators, this translates into practical, trustworthy information. Whether you are weighing up a timber frame against a masonry structure, looking into natural insulation for a retrofit, or trying to understand how a product's environmental claims stand up to scrutiny, ASBP's guidance is written to cut through marketing language and set out what the evidence actually shows. We also work with government and industry on the policy changes, such as clearer whole-life carbon reporting, needed to make low-carbon choices the easy, default option for anyone building or renovating a home.
