The NSBRC Guide to Heating & Sustainability

Build a better, more energy-efficient home.

The NSBRC Guide to Heating & Sustainability is the specialist third-day programme from our highly regarded Self Build & Renovation Course, now available to book as a dedicated one-day training course.

Whether you're planning a self-build project, renovating an existing property, or simply looking to understand the latest heating and renewable technologies, this intensive one-day course provides practical, independent guidance to help you make informed decisions.

The course focuses on one of the most important aspects of any successful project: creating a comfortable, sustainable and cost-effective home. You'll gain a clearer understanding of building performance, energy efficiency, heating systems and renewable technologies, helping you avoid costly mistakes and future-proof your investment.

Delivered by Independent Heating & Energy Consultant Rob Bohm, the day combines expert technical knowledge with practical, real-world advice. No sales pitches, no jargon – just impartial guidance you can trust.

This course can be attended as a standalone one-day session, or as part of the wider NSBRC Guide to Self Build & Renovation Projects programme.

What will the course cover?

Energy Fundamentals
Our expert shows you how to lessen the impact your project could have on the environment; he looks at the incentives available and drivers for using various technologies, (solar, battery storage, heat pumps, etc.) comparative fuel costs and helps you understand how to calculate the payback terms. They will also consider the latest legislative requirements of Passivhaus, SAP ratings, and other potential incentives.

Design, Planning & Management
We will look at the different elements of the building to make sure they are designed, specified and installed to maximise their potential.

Heating Options:
Our expert will give the information you need to select the correct heating options for your home.
