Next up: Planning Permission
Saturday 26th September (10:00 - 14:00)
For three consecutive years, our annual survey has shown the process of gaining planning permission is the most challenging obstacle faced by self-builders.
Policies that are inadequately supportive to self-build, a lack of resource available in planning offices and an unwillingness to consider non-standard designs can all lead to frustration and delayed projects.
Whether you're planning a self build, extending your home, converting an existing building or undertaking a major renovation, understanding the planning process is one of the most important first steps to a successful project.
Planning Permission can seem daunting, with national policies, local planning authorities, permitted development rights and site-specific constraints all influencing what you can achieve. Receiving the right advice at the earliest stage can help you avoid costly mistakes, minimise delays and give your project the best possible chance of success.
During your visit, you'll be able to attend expert-led seminars, explore the NSBRC, and book free 1-to-1 consultations with experienced planning professionals to discuss your project and receive guidance tailored to your plans.
For both new build and renovation projects, our experts can help you understand the planning system, identify opportunities and navigate potential challenges with confidence.
From understanding what requires Planning Permission to preparing a robust application and avoiding common pitfalls, you'll gain practical advice that will help you make informed decisions before investing significant time and money in your project.
Our experts will offer free advice on:
- Planning Permission for self builds, renovations, extensions and conversion projects
- Permitted Development Rights and when they apply
- Lawful Development Certificates and other planning routes
- Assessing the development potential of land and building plots
- Planning constraints, including Green Belt, Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings
