Placing sustainability at the heart of our offering
Our sustainability pledge
Our employee-owned business is committed to enabling the creation of better, sustainable homes by delivering trusted, impartial advice via themed events, educational exhibits and courses to local, regional and national audiences.
We will facilitate new connections, and enhance existing partnerships, to share our collective knowledge with individuals and groups.
We will identify and encourage sustainability champions – both external and internal - who will help share their personal stories and motivations and inspire us to follow our values.
So far we are proud to have:
- Installed LED lighting throughout the Centre; including 138 hi-bay lamps within our 67,000ft2 arena and our reception, theatres and meeting spaces.
- Enhanced our EV charging offering from six basic posts to eight 22kW, smart points with load-balancing technology.
- Implemented a recycling scheme throughout the Centre.
- Undertaken a research trip to Ireland to gain a deeper understanding of retrofitting existing properties - and how the homeowner can be supported.
- Sponsored the Big Art Trail (Swindogs) in 2023, where we offered practical (and affordable) energy-efficiency advice in the local community while supporting a local charity.
- Continued running one free monthly webinar for our audience on a range of sustainable homebuilding topics, alongside our in-person events. You can find the series here.
- Launched our brand new ‘Festival of Sustainable Homes’ event for both new builds & existing properties to highlight how we can all live more sustainably in our homes and surrounding communities. Our experts and exhibits offered the latest advice on improving both the energy efficiency and comfort levels of our homes and we will be invited contributions from genuine, impartial specialists in the natural environment.
Our upcoming plans include:
- We are actively working to attain B Corp status to demonstrate our social and environmental performance, and show transparency, and accountability. The initial assessment process is also designed to help us identify areas we can improve on.
- Using our retrofit research to plan and build a dedicated, educational exhibit on retrofitting within the Centre. This unique area will be designed help make retrofit more accessible and understandable for individuals, community groups, professionals and educational establishments
To help us stay committed and deliver on our promises, we have identified a number of ‘Sustainability Champions’ within Team NSBRC. Our original sustainability leads, Harvey and Katy, are joined (from April 2024) by our latest recruit – Nick Whant with all three team members committing to enhance their own individual knowledge.
We're also working in partnership with a number of organisations with a genuine knowledge in the field:
