Team NSBRC attends The National Sustainability Awards

Team NSBRC attends the National Sustainability Awards

On Thursday 5th October, Team NSBRC attended The National Sustainability Awards, in its second year, held at the Waldorf Hotel in London. We feel honoured to have attended this prestigious awards ceremony, especially as a small, employee-owned company up against household names such as NatWest, Lombard and OVO Energy. The panel of judges looked at submissions from organisations demonstrating impact and innovation across all sectors, and how they can help create a greener future for the generations to come.

As we entered 2023, our team realised how important it is to place sustainability at the heart of our offerings – not just for the months ahead, but the years to follow. At the Centre, we’ve continued to offer an array of online surgeries and courses, designed to help people improve the energy efficiency of their homes. We’ve also worked hard to help reduce our carbon footprint by installing LED lighting throughout our Centre, increasing the number of EV charging points, and will soon be installing solar panels – to name a few of our activities.

The NSBRC were thrilled to be nominated across two categories: ‘Team of the Year’ for our in-house marketing team (consisting of Harvey, Clare & Katy), as well as in the ‘Rising Star’ category, reflecting the individual efforts of Katy – who is an internal ‘sustainability champion’ alongside Harvey. As a close-knit team of employee-owners, our nominations are representative of the combined efforts of the whole team, and is certainly an achievement we all feel proud of.

We knew whatever the result, the awards would be a special evening. Unfortunately, we didn’t win this year, although we had a wonderful evening celebrating and reflecting on all we’ve achieved so far whilst working towards implementing more sustainable business practices, alongside – of course – helping our visitors build better, more sustainable homes.

Harvey says:

Our sustainability pledge is all about making connections and sharing knowledge, and being short-listed for these awards adds genuine credibility to the already much respected NSBRC brand. This is a true team effort, with every one of our team playing a meaningful part in this achievement. But, I do want to pay a short tribute to my marketing colleagues, Katy & Clare.

It was no surprise that, last year, Katy achieved a ‘Distinction’ in a Chartered Institute of Marketing Digital Marketing Course. It just proved the work ethic that we all know she has. Katy is the epitome of an employee-owner, sharing knowledge, while motivating and encouraging us all to consider our own impact on sustainability. Katy, was married this Summer, and 2023 will be a year she will never forget, and we are all very proud of her.

Clare re-joined the NSBRC late last year, and has been a breath of fresh air, offering new ideas and renewed energy for us all to feed off and I am so pleased, with this submission, we were able to prove how valued a team member she is! I offer my congratulations to all the team. This is just the beginning of our own sustainability journey.
